What we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Effective October 8, 2026

Who we are

Palm Harbor Happenings, LLC ("PHH", "we", "us") runs palmharborhappenings.com, a local news, events and business directory website for Palm Harbor, Florida and the nearby area (the "Service"). This policy explains how we handle personal information when you visit the website, create an account, list a business, or contact us.

Questions about this policy go to [email protected] or our contact page.

Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account information. Your name, business name, email address and password when you create a business account. Passwords are handled by our sign-in provider and we never see them in plain text.
  • Sign in with Facebook or Google. If you choose to sign in with Facebook or Google, that company shares your name, email address, profile picture and account ID with us. See Signing in with Facebook or Google.
  • Business listings. The business details you submit, such as business name, address, phone number, email, website, hours, description, categories, social links, deals and photos, and the name and contact details of the person who manages the listing.
  • Event submissions. The event details you send us, including any organizer name, link or contact details you include.
  • Messages. Your name, email address and message when you use our contact form or email us.
  • Newsletter. Your email address if you sign up for our newsletter.
  • Payments. If you buy a paid listing, our payment processor, Stripe, collects your card details. We never see or store your full card number. We keep billing records about your plan and payments.

Information collected automatically

  • Log data. Like most websites, our hosting, security and analytics tools receive standard information such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit, the site that referred you and the time of your visit, including when you sign in.
  • Spam and abuse protection. We use your IP address for a short time (minutes) to limit how often forms and features can be used, and Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a form is being sent by a person.
  • Site analytics. We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages get read and where people get stuck. Clarity records mouse movement, clicks, scrolling and page views and uses cookies to do so. We set it to hide the content of the sign-up page and your name and picture in the site header, and we turn it off on the account dashboard and sign-in pages. Microsoft handles Clarity data under its own terms and the Microsoft Privacy Statement. We also use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and sources bring people to the site. It uses cookies and is turned off on the same account and sign-in pages. Google handles that data under the Google Privacy Policy.
  • Ad and button counts. We count views and clicks on the local ads and buttons shown on the site so we can report totals to advertisers. These counts are not tied to your name or account.
  • Word Harbor game. When you play, we give your browser a random game ID and store your game progress and stats so the game is fair. It is not linked to your name or account, and the server copy is deleted 45 days after you last play. We also keep an anonymous record of each day's play, which tiers were solved and how many guesses it took, under a one-way code that cannot be turned back into your game ID or linked to you. We use it to see how hard the game is.
  • Newsletter emails. Our newsletter emails may include standard open and click tracking from our email provider, so we can see which stories readers find useful.
  • Browser storage. The site stores small pieces of information in your browser to keep you signed in, remember your game progress and remember simple preferences.

How we use information

  • To run the website, show business listings and events, and run the Word Harbor game.
  • To create and secure your account and let you sign in.
  • To review, publish and manage business listings, photos and event submissions.
  • To process payments for paid listings and manage subscriptions.
  • To answer your messages and send emails you ask for or need, such as account and listing notices.
  • To send our newsletter if you signed up. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link.
  • To understand how the site is used and make it better.
  • To prevent spam, fraud and abuse, and to keep the site secure.
  • To follow the law and protect our rights and the rights of others.

Signing in with Facebook or Google

Signing in with Facebook or Google is optional. You can always use an email address and password instead.

When you choose one of them, that company asks your permission and then shares your name, email address, profile picture and account ID with us. We use this information only to create your Palm Harbor Happenings account, sign you in, and contact you about your account and listings. We do not post anything to your Facebook or Google account, we do not see your friends or contacts, and we do not sell this information or give it to advertisers.

If you already have an account with the same verified email address, signing in with Facebook or Google usually connects to that existing account.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information or give it to advertisers. We share it only in these cases:

  • Information you choose to make public. Business listings and approved events are meant to be seen. The business details in a published listing, including any contact details you put in it, are public on the website.
  • Service providers who help us run the Service and may only use the data to do that work for us. They provide website hosting and security, our database, accounts and photo storage, payment processing, email delivery and our email inbox, site analytics (including Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics), maps and other website tools, and internal staff messaging.
  • AI tools for our staff. Our admins use an AI assistant (provided by Anthropic) to answer questions about the site. To answer, it reads the business, account, subscriber and billing records the question needs, and those records are sent to Anthropic for that purpose only.
  • Facebook and Google, only when you choose to sign in with them (see above).
  • Legal reasons. If the law requires it, or to protect the safety, rights or property of our users, the public or PHH.
  • Business changes. If PHH is sold or merges with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that deal, and this policy will still apply to it.

Cookies and similar technology

We use browser storage that the site needs to work, such as keeping you signed in. Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics also set cookies for analytics. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, but you may need to sign in again. Our site does not change how it works in response to "Do Not Track" browser signals.

How long we keep information

  • Account and listing information: while your account is active, and until you ask us to delete it.
  • Newsletter email: we stop emailing you as soon as you unsubscribe. We keep your address only on a do-not-email list so you are not added again by mistake, unless you ask us to delete it.
  • Messages to us: as long as needed to answer and keep a record of the conversation.
  • Payment records: as long as tax and accounting laws require.
  • Word Harbor game records: 45 days after you last play.
  • Word Harbor play statistics: kept in anonymous form.
  • IP addresses used for spam limits: up to 15 minutes.
  • Site and security logs: for the limited time our providers keep them.

Your choices and rights

  • You can see and update your business listing and account details from your dashboard at any time.
  • You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it.
  • You can ask us to delete your account and personal information (see below).
  • You can unsubscribe from our newsletter with the link in any newsletter email.
  • You can remove Palm Harbor Happenings from your Facebook or Google account settings at any time.

To make any of these requests, email [email protected] from the email address on your account. We may need to confirm it is really you before we act.

Deleting your data (including Facebook sign-in data)

To have your account and personal information deleted, including the information Facebook or Google shared with us, email [email protected] with the subject "Data deletion request" from the email address on your account. If your Facebook account did not share an email address with us, use our contact page and tell us the name on your account, and we will confirm it is you another way.

Within 30 days we will delete your account and the information Facebook or Google shared with us from our active systems, remove your personal contact details from your business listing, remove your address from our newsletter list, and ask our email provider to delete it. We will reply to confirm when it is done.

A few things work differently. Backup copies are erased on their normal schedule. We keep payment records and basic security and audit records where the law or fraud prevention requires it. Our directory also lists local businesses from public information, so if you want your business's listing removed entirely, say so in your request.

You can also stop sharing with us at any time: in Facebook, go to Settings & privacy, then Settings, then Apps and websites, and remove Palm Harbor Happenings. In Google, go to your Google Account, then Security, then Your connections to third-party apps and services, and remove Palm Harbor Happenings.

Requests from government and law enforcement

We share personal information with a government body or law enforcement only when the law requires it. We check that each request is valid, get legal advice, push back on requests that are unlawful or too broad, share only the minimum required, and keep a record of every request. Where the law allows, we tell you about a request for your information before we respond.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and spam protection. No website or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Links to other websites

Listings, events and articles link to websites we do not run. Their privacy practices are their own, so please read their policies.

Where we process information

PHH is based in Florida, and we store information in the United States. If you visit from outside the United States, your information will be processed in the United States.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we will give notice on the website or by email.
